Palermo is situated in a marvelous position on the sea, it is the chief town of the Sicily island and the center of the Sicilian Regional Government.
Palermo was founded by the Phoenician with the name "ziz" (flower); in the 253 B.C. it passed in the hands of the Romans; then it was under the Byzantines and subsequently it became the capital of one of the most flourishing states of the period.
Its ascent continued under the Normans and in 13th cent. Federico the second did of Palermo one of the most greater centers of European intellectual life, meeting point between the Arabic and Latin cultures.
Its millennial history has given a notable artistic and architectural patrimony. From the rests of puniche walls to reach villas in liberty style passing from residences in Arabic style, baroque churches and neoclassic theatres. The enchantment of the nature, the wealth of villas and gardens, the sea of Mondello, the enchanting landscape, make of this city one of the pearls of the Mediterranean Sea.
